Paanagam is prepared and distributed to the people on Shri Rama navami. On that day poojas, and discourses would be performed in temples.So to quench the thirst of the crowd buttermilk and paanagam will be distributed. Huge vessels will be filled with these in many places.Those days people used to perform poojas and keep pots filled with these drinks outside their houses also.
Paanagam:
Add a cup of powdered jaggery to 3 cups of water.
Mix a spoon of dry ginger powder,cardamom powder. Stir and it is ready.
Jaggery contains iron and dry ginger is good for digestion.
Mango paanagam:
Take a cup of warm water.
Mix a cup of grated mango ( the mango which they sell in beach,kili mookku will be ideal as it will not be very sour)
After 30 minutes filter it.
Add this mixture to the above mentioned paanagam.
Note:
We can add or reduce the quantity of jaggery and water according to individuals taste. You can add ice cubes or chill it before serving.
