Halloween (all hallow even) is also known as All saints Day in a religious sense.

The festival was a combination of the Departed faithful and the commemoration of the end of summer. It is observed on the evening of October 31st.

Summers end, marked the end of  yearly cycle.Good harvest is the important event.

It is the period of threshing and preparing food for the winter.

In the religious sense the spirits of the departed were believed to visit their kinsmen in search of warmth as winter approached.

Halloween in America is celebrated with the special trick or treat feature. The children with their masks and costumes go from house to house and say, "trick or treat". Cider, candies, cinnamons lemon juice are wonderful treats. It was said that the peasant those days, after the harvest, went from house to house asking food or gift.

The donors were blessed and threats were for the stingy ones.

Now the religious significance is overshadowed by commercialism

as we find in all festivals. The stores were dumped with witches,

ghosts and Frankensteins carves from Pumpkins.

The photo seen above was taken by me when I visited the Sea world  in October.
