The deep underground void in San Antonio
The visit to the Natural Bridge Caverns was an awesome experience. The tour was full of thrills and wondersnature which we will never forget.
A breathtakingly beautiful underworld, where time and nature collided to create a natural phenomenon. From the gigantic columns to the crystalline soda straws everythingwas so real, natural and majestic.
Visiting a show cave is safe.Comfortable walking shoes and a light jacket are recommended.
The tours are guided by experienced professionals who will explain the geology and hist.The cavern temperature is 70 degree F with high humidity.
The trails are steep and wet. The tour takes about an hour and 45 minutes.
The guide takes you with a flash light on his hand.
The national caves association is a non profit organisation of publicly and privately owned show caves and cavdeveloped for public visitations.
No two caves are alike. Within the caves you can find variety of geologic features.
stalacite, stalagmite, columns, draperies, flowstones, soda straws, rimstones,helectite, anthodite and various crystaldeposits.
From 9 to 4 every one hour there is a tour.
As we all assembled for 10 A.M tour the guide enquired whether we have comfortable shoesas the climb would be slippery. Since we had to descend 200 feet we were relievedto find railings on one side. We moved slowly and at a point there were benches to sit and relax. Without spoling the natural surroundings there were few bulbs lit
here and there which gave a beautiful glow to the nautral formations. We were awestruckby the shapes, colours and formations on the tall columns and on the deep and dark cave below.
After walking for a mile or so we started ascending a
few steps towards the exit.
Then we went to the visitors centre and bought some
mementos.
Many caves offer surface amenities like craft shops,
lodging and dining.
